An Awesome Life PDF Print E-mail

Live an AWESOME Life by Taking Two Steps forward and One Step Back!

Your life (and organization) will truly be AWESOME when you live with:
Acceptance (of things as they truly Are)
Within (a qualifier that assumes genuine desire)
Expectation1 (the one expectation is a desire to improve individually); of,
Self (and take the time to know yourself); and
Others (immerse yourself in loving relationships/organizations); with
Mutual (build a team by sharing openly and honestly)
Enthusiasm (Honor and be Inspired by your collective efforts)

ACCEPTANCE (of things as they truly are)

Lon is a huge believer in ACCEPTANCE of self, others and circumstances as they truly are. His fundamental belief is that when viewing things objectively (which often requires a perspective larger than self as provided by others that are pre-qualified as being a part of a mutual effort) the path forward is clear. Energy spent in regret, judgment, blame, or fear of the situation is energy better spent on cutting and following the path forward. Remember the famous Rotarian saying: "If it is to be...It is up to me."

WITHIN (a qualifier that assumes genuine desire)

In his book "Leadership Secrets of Attila the Hun" Wes Roberts, Ph.D., wrote that one of Atilla’s tenants of leadership was to; "never reward the Hun’s undeservedly." The principle behind this is that rewards should be earned, not simply given. Otherwise the rewards themselves become diminished. Within the AWESOME life concept we ask for ACCEPTANCE of things as they truly are as apposed to judgment or blame. However, if the result (or lack of a result) is obtained in the absence of genuine effort we can not ACCEPT the result; ACCEPTANCE is the reward but it can not be given undeservedly.

EXPECTATION1 (the ONE expectation is a desire to improve individually)

Many self help books suggest we should live without EXPECTATION. One of the principals of Karma Yoga is "taking action without expectation of a result." While it may sound to the contrary I agree with this with ONE (1) exception. EXPECTATION1 allows for one expectation and one expectation only. It is not a certain outcome; it is a certain effort. EXPECTATION1 assumes a singular desire to improve individually.

"Living without expectation is not living without a plan. It is living with the good sense and humor to know that nobody cares about your plan but you!" Rabbi Rami Shapiro

SELF (taking the time to know yourself)

Self help books are perhaps more voluminous than any other book (okay, maybe cheap romance novels but you get my point). This concept of SELF is huge in our society today. Wikipedia offers a definition of SELF from a Social, Psychological and Philosophical perspective. No wonder we all may struggle gaining a perspective on our own SELF. No matter how we gain this perspective and appreciation we must take steps along the journey and we must invite others along to help us. But we should ONLY invite those that love us enough to hurt us in an effort to help; like a workout partner that pushes you to do those last two sit-ups or that last quarter-mile. Someone that will help us feel and endure the burn for the long term gain.

In the end; "our emotions result entirely from the way we look at things; the way we think." David Burns, MD... So, "be Nice to you!" says, Lon.

We must constantly work on our own SELF!

OTHERS (immerse yourself in loving relationships/organizations)

An oft-repeated spiritual, some say religious, expression is that "we will not be given any burdens so great that we can not bear them." Lon believes this statement as a call to action to immerse yourself in loving relationships and organizations with desires and efforts that are complimentary of your own. Or with OTHERS that will directly or indirectly benefit from your own actions, etc... You cannot be so consumed with SELF that you do not see and share the benefits of and for others....

MUTUAL (build a team by sharing openly and honestly)

Lon believes in this shared ability to bear great burdens so thoroughly that he challenges his audiences create and surround themselves with loved ones that are "share and aware" qualified. You must invite others into your life and "share" with them your dreams and goals to make them "aware" of how you are progressing toward your own AWESOME life. For this to work, you must provide the same service in return... Love, Laugh and Learn along Life’s Journey to an AWESOME future!

ENTHUSIASM (Honor and be Inspired by your collective efforts!)

The father and author of "The Power of Positive Thinking" Norman Vincent Peale has said, "If you have zest and enthusiasm you attract zest and enthusiasm. Life does give back in kind." Lon’s take on this is to "Honor and be Inspired by what you are trying to do!" Ultimately we have little control over our accomplishments or our fate but we have Ultimate control of our effort and enthusiasm for how we go about pursuing our dreams. So the fate of how we perceive and receive our accomplishments is completely within our control and it is AWESOME!
